High-Quality Acrylic Construction for Your Peace of Mind Safety Tubs® acrylic walk-in tubs have a luxurious, glossy finish that resists chipping, fading, mold, mildew and bacteria for a healthier and more beautiful bathing environment. Acrylic is the material of choice for leading bathtub manufacturers and trade professionals throughout the world and offers many advantages over fiberglass. Safety Tubs® is the only manufacturer of acrylic walk-in bathtubs with built-in, 17" chair-height seats in the world, and every Safety Tub® is made in the USA to ensure that it meets our stringent quality standards. Acrylic vs. Fiberglass Fiberglass is a porous, gel-coated (painted) material. Because of its porous nature, soap scum, mold, mildew and other residues lodge in the pores of the fiberglass surface over time, creating a less healthy bathing environment. When a fiberglass tub is cleaned, a portion of the tub's gel-coat is removed. With each cleaning, more and more of the tub surface wears away resulting in a finish that stains more quickly and becomes more difficult to clean. Because acrylic is a non-porous material, it is mold and mildew resistant, making it a healthier and cleaner bathing environment than fiberglass. The non-porous properties of acrylic also make it stain resistant and extremely easy to clean because residue stays at the surface and doesn't work its way down into pores. When cleaned, acrylic does not lose any portion of its surface. As a result, acrylic will resist chipping and fading and retain its beautiful, high-gloss finish year after year. |
